Wednesday Prompt Day is a small, warm corner of Instagram where one word becomes hundreds of poems. We set a prompt, you write to it, and our hosts read every single entry.
How a week runs
- WednesdayThe prompt goes live with a word limit and a deadline.
- Wednesday to FridayPoets post their entries in the comments.
- FridayThe hosting team reads, shortlists and votes on every entry.
- WeekendWinner cards and the honourable-mentions card are published here and on stories.
Questions poets ask
- How do I enter?
- Post your poem in the comments of the weekly prompt post on Instagram, within the word limit and before the deadline. Follow the account and tag a friend so more poets find us.
- How long do I have?
- Most weeks give you 48 hours from the moment the prompt goes live. The exact window is printed on the prompt graphic and counted down on our home page.
- How are winners chosen?
- Every entry is read by the hosting team. We shortlist, vote, and then agree the final order together. Winners get their own story card; up to ten more poets are named as honourable mentions.
- Can I share my winner card?
- Please do. The cards are made for Instagram stories — tag Wednesday Prompt Day so we can share it on too.
Whose words these are
Every poem on this site belongs to the poet who wrote it. We publish with their permission so the work can be read and celebrated — not copied. Please credit poets by their handle and link back rather than reposting their words.
